Best Time to Visit Syria — And Why You Can Visit Year-Round
Syria's climate is mild — April to October is a long tourist season — and it can be visited most of the year — we recommend spring and autumn for all-round trips, summer for the sea and mountains, and winter for the cities and coastal towns.

Syria has a mild climate and can be visited most of the year — every season has its charm. We recommend certain months for each destination, but there's no "closed" season: we'll help you choose what suits your dates.
The short answer
From April to October (months 4–10), the weather is lovely in Syria — a long tourist season running from spring through autumn. Within it, April–May and September–October are the gentlest windows for all-round trips (mild weather, fewer crowds). And even winter has its destinations (the cities and coastal towns) — there's no "closed" season.
Season by season
Spring (March–May) — best for all-round trips. Mild everywhere, nature at its peak, and Palmyra and the desert at their best. Great for Damascus, Aleppo, the castles, Palmyra and the coast.
Summer (June–August) — sea-and-mountain season. The coast is at its peak and the mountains (Kassab, Slunfeh, Bloudan) are a cool, refreshing escape. Damascus and Aleppo are hot by day, so visit in the mornings and evenings. This is the expat season, so crowds and prices are higher.
Autumn (September–November) — one of the best times. The sea is still warm in September and the crowds have gone, the weather is gentler, and prices drop. Many people love the coast in September and October just for the atmosphere — strolling the corniche and sitting out in the mild weather, even without swimming — and it's cheaper. Suits almost everything.
Winter (December–February) — city and coastal-town season. Damascus and Aleppo are at their best with a coat, and the sights are empty so you see them at your own pace. The coastal cities (Latakia, Tartus) themselves are pleasant for strolling, dining and the seafront. The sea is out of season and the mountains are cold (and sometimes snowy — a destination in their own right), so in winter focus on the cities and coastal towns.
Recommendation by destination
- Damascus & Aleppo — best in spring and autumn, and visitable all year (winter is pleasant for cities).
- The coast — summer and September for the sea and swimming; September and October are lovely just for the atmosphere and strolling the corniche, even without swimming (and cheaper than peak); the coastal cities themselves all year.
- The mountains (Kassab, Slunfeh, Bloudan) — summer is loveliest (cool and fresh).
- Palmyra & the desert — spring and autumn (gentler than the summer heat).
- Castles & ruins — spring and autumn, and summer mornings/evenings.
Good to know
- Ramadan — restaurants come alive after sunset, and the old city at night is special.
- Holidays & expat peak (July–August) — resorts and hotels fill and prices rise; June or September are quieter.
In short
If you must pick one month for an all-round trip, we recommend September (warm sea, gentler weather, fewer crowds, lower prices). But whatever your dates, there's a destination that fits — and we'll plan the trip around it.
