Damascus One-Day Group Tour — Every Saturday, a Full Day Through the Old City (2026)
Join our Damascus one-day group tour — every Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with an English-speaking local guide. The National Museum, the Umayyad Mosque, Azm Palace, Al-Hamidiyah souq, Straight Street, the old quarters and Bab Sharqi, plus art, handicrafts and real conversations. US$20 per person plus entry tickets. Guaranteed departure, small shared group. Book on WhatsApp.

Damascus isn't a city you understand from monuments alone. Its character lives in the souqs and courtyards, under Roman arches, and in the conversations shared over a coffee. Our Damascus One-Day Group Tour brings visitors — and curious locals — together for a full day through the capital with an English-speaking local guide, from the National Museum to the Eastern Gate. Here is everything the day includes, and how to book.
The essentials
- Every Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (about eight hours).
- English-speaking local guide, a small shared group.
- Shared-tour price: US$20 per person, plus entry tickets to the museums and sites.
- Guaranteed departure — the tour runs even if only one guest has booked; the size and mix of the group varies each Saturday.
- Mostly a walking tour with several indoor visits.
- Meet at the National Museum of Damascus; finish at Bab Sharqi (the Eastern Gate).
- Booking ahead is required — registration closes Wednesday evening before each Saturday.
- Entry tickets to museums and sites, and food and drinks, are not included — you pay for what you choose on the day.
- Prefer your own private day, any day of the week, at your own pace? We arrange that too — see "Private option" below.
👉 Book the group tour on WhatsApp — message us and we'll confirm the next Saturday, the price and what's included.
Who it's for
- First-time visitors — a structured, well-paced introduction to the city: its essential monuments plus the neighbourhoods, art and daily life around them.
- International travellers — understand Damascus through a local guide and natural conversation with people who live here.
- Solo travellers — a welcoming, scheduled day with a guide and fellow guests, no need to arrange anything alone.
- Short-stay guests — one full, broad day in the capital when that's all the time you have.
- Culture and history lovers — history, architecture, faith, contemporary art, handicrafts and community stories, all in one route.
- Damascus locals — a chance to rediscover the city, meet visitors from abroad and practise English.
The Saturday itinerary
Times give a clear structure while leaving room for questions, gallery and workshop availability, temporary closures and the natural rhythm of the Old City. The route may be reordered while keeping the overall experience and the finishing time.
9:00 AM — National Museum of Damascus. Meet your guide at the main entrance. After a short welcome, explore selected galleries that introduce Syria's civilizations — from Ugarit and Mari to Palmyra — and set the historical scene for the rest of the day.
10:30 AM — Al-Hamidiyah Souq & Roman Damascus. Enter the Old City through its grand covered market, learn about Damascene commercial and social life, and emerge beside the surviving columns of the Roman Temple of Jupiter. See our Al-Hamidiyah souq guide.
11:00 AM — Umayyad Mosque & Saladin's Mausoleum. Explore the courtyard, golden mosaics and prayer hall of the great Umayyad Mosque, tracing the site's Roman, Christian and Islamic layers, then step next door to the Mausoleum of Saladin.
12:00 PM — Azm Palace. Walk the courtyards and decorated rooms of one of the Old City's finest palaces — an introduction to traditional Damascene domestic architecture, hospitality and the inward-looking courtyard house.
1:00 PM — Al-Buzuriyah Souq & Khan Asaad Pasha. Follow the spice market — scents of cardamom, dried rose and tamarind — to the monumental caravanserai of Khan Asaad Pasha, and hear how Damascus merchants connected the city to a far wider world.
1:30 PM — Break at a Damascene courtyard café. Pause in a traditional courtyard such as Beit Jabri. Food and drinks aren't included, so each guest orders and pays for a preferred drink, snack or meal.
3:00 PM — The old Jewish Quarter. Walk respectfully through Haret al-Yahud (the Al-Amin quarter) and hear about the Jewish families, merchants and artisans and the courtyard houses tied to the neighbourhood. Access to private houses or synagogue interiors isn't promised.
3:30 PM — Straight Street, art & handicrafts. Follow the line of the ancient Roman axis (the "Street called Straight") into the Christian Quarter. Along the way, meet Damascus crafts — mosaic woodwork, brocade textiles, Damascus steel and ajami painted panels — and visit a contemporary art space such as the Mustafa Ali Gallery when it's open.
4:30 PM — Ananias Church & Bab Sharqi. Visit the underground Chapel of Saint Ananias (subject to opening and services), tied to the story of Saint Paul, then finish the walk at Bab Sharqi, the Eastern Gate, at around 5:00 PM.
Tour highlights
- The Umayyad Mosque — one of the oldest and grandest mosques in the world, and Saladin's tomb beside it.
- The National Museum — the thread that ties Syria's civilizations together.
- Azm Palace — the Damascene courtyard house at its most beautiful.
- Al-Hamidiyah & Roman Damascus — the covered souq and the columns of the Temple of Jupiter.
- Al-Buzuriyah & Khan Asaad Pasha — the spice market and a monumental caravanserai.
- Straight Street, the Christian Quarter & Bab Sharqi — the Roman axis, Ananias Church and the Eastern Gate.
- Art, neighbourhoods & handicrafts — the Jewish Quarter, contemporary sculpture, mosaic, brocade and Damascus steel.
A shared city experience
The route is built for conversation. International visitors gain a human understanding of Damascus, and local guests share their city and meet people from abroad. Because the number and mix of participants changes every Saturday, no two departures are quite the same.
Good to know
- Wear comfortable shoes — it's mostly walking on old stone, with some steps.
- Modest dress for the Umayyad Mosque and churches (headscarves are available at the mosque).
- Carry cash (US dollars) for entry tickets, food and any purchases — see money in Syria.
- Tickets and meals are paid on the day and aren't part of the tour fee.
- The day involves a fair amount of walking; tell us in advance if anyone needs a gentler pace and we'll help.
The private option
Prefer your own group, your own day and your own pace — or a tour in Arabic? We also run this as a private Damascus day tour with a car, a driver and a guide on request, any day of the week, starting from your hotel and tailored to you. It's ideal for families, older travellers and anyone who'd rather not share. See the private Damascus Old City tour.
