Damascus has somewhere to stay for every taste and budget — from international five-star hotels to restored Damascene courtyard houses in the heart of the Old City, a few steps from the Umayyad Mosque and the souks. Here's a guide to the best-known, and where to stay by your purpose.

Five-star hotels

  • Royal Semiramis — a historic hotel from 1950, reopened in 2025 as a five-star in the heart of Damascus, with views over the Old City and Mount Qasioun and a seventh-floor restaurant.
  • Dama Rose — a large hotel with a pool and city views from the upper floors, near Umayyad Square.
  • Four Seasons Damascus — the grand building on the banks of the Barada, one of the city's landmark luxury addresses. *Note: it has no longer been run by the global Four Seasons chain since 2019.*
  • Cham Palace — a long-established five-star in the city centre, one of the oldest and best-known large hotels.
  • Sheraton Damascus — historically well known; confirm the current operating status before booking.

Boutique courtyard houses — in the Old City

A completely different experience: restored Damascene and Ottoman houses with a courtyard, a fountain and an iwan, a step away from the Umayyad Mosque and the souks.

  • Beit Al Mamlouka — one of the first boutique hotels in the Old City, a tastefully restored Damascene house.
  • Talisman — a lavish 17-room Damascene mansion in the old quarter, filled with antiques, with a courtyard and a small pool.
  • Al Shahbandar Palace — 11 rooms in Al-Qaymariya, Damascus stone and inlaid furnishings with a heritage feel.
  • Beit Rumman — in Bab Touma, a house some 400 years old, a boutique hotel and restaurant with a stone cellar.
  • Beit Zafran — a restored Ottoman mansion with a courtyard and traditional décor.
  • Beit Akbik, Hotel Al-Zaytouna, Beit Al-Wali, Old Vine, Beit Zaman — Damascene guesthouses with a heritage atmosphere.
  • Khan Suleiman Pasha — an Ottoman caravanserai turned hotel and restaurant, a unique stay in the heart of the souk.

Where to stay by your purpose

  • Business and meetings — international five-stars (Four Seasons, Dama Rose) near the business centres and restaurants.
  • An authentic Damascene experience — a boutique house in the Old City, living the real atmosphere of old Damascus.
  • Family and comfort — a large hotel with a pool and services.
  • A smaller budget — three- and four-star hotels and guesthouses in the city centre.
Note: the number of operating hotels and their prices change, and some houses have only recently reopened after hard years. Confirm availability and the price directly with the hotel before you book.
