Latakia — Beaches & Ugarit on the Syrian Coast
Latakia, the largest city on the Syrian coast — the widest sandy beaches in Syria, the seafront corniche, Ugarit and Saladin's Castle nearby, and how to visit.

Latakia is the largest city on the Syrian coast and its heart — a working port city as much as a resort, which gives it an unforced, lived-in feel. It has the widest sandy beaches in Syria.
What to see and do
- The beaches — soft sand and shallow water over a wide area, family-friendly; quieter, cleaner beaches lie north of the city.
- The corniche — Latakia's evening: a seafront walk with cafés and fish restaurants.
- Ugarit — 15 km north, where the world's first alphabet was found.
- Saladin's Castle — a dramatic UNESCO fortress in the mountains east of the city.
Getting there
Latakia is about 4 hours from Damascus and needs a car to reach and to explore the sites around it. We arrange a private trip along the coast, or a straight transfer from Damascus airport.
