The Syrian Coast — Latakia, Tartus & the Beaches
A guide to Syria's Mediterranean coast: Latakia's sandy beaches, Tartus and Arwad island, the Crusader castles, and the mountain resorts — and how to get there.

Syria's coast is a narrow strip between the sea and the mountains — you can breakfast by the water and lunch in the hills, half an hour apart. It's a summer destination again.
Latakia
The largest coastal city, with the widest sandy beaches in Syria — shallow, family-friendly water, a seafront corniche and fish restaurants. Nearby is Ugarit, where the world's first alphabet was found.
Tartus & Arwad
Quieter than Latakia, with clear water and cafés on the sea. From its harbour a boat reaches Arwad, the only inhabited island in Syria — narrow lanes, wooden boatyards and a castle.
Castles & mountains
- Saladin's Castle and Al-Marqab — dramatic Crusader fortresses over the coast.
- Kassab, Slunfeh & Mashta al-Helu — cool pine-forest resorts in the mountains.
Getting there
The coast is 3–4 hours from Damascus and needs a car — buses only link the big towns. We arrange a private trip with a driver who knows the mountain and coastal roads. Just landed? A Damascus airport transfer can take you straight on.
Wherever your road leads, we'll get you there.
